Book Covers

Below are a few book cover designs.

The first one is a epistolary biography John compiled from his mother’s letters. The cover notes read, “A remarkable woman’s passion to reach lost souls with the Gospel takes her (and her typewriter) across the eastern US singing with a trio, then to sail under wartime black-out conditions in 1941 to a bush station deep in the forest of colonial Belgian Congo. Her letters home to Hector, her Canadian sweetheart, her mother, sisters and supporters are filled with adventure, love, faith, and inspiration. The story coming from the letters is a heartwarming account of a loving wife and mother of six boys triumphing over personal and family illness and tragedy. Five years before her death she wrote, I want the dew of heaven to be in my letters as well as in my life.” This book is available on Amazon or Lulu.

The second book, A Book of Ways, by Mary Manning (John’s partner), is a handbook for living holistically, from the mundane to the mystical. Not only practical, but conceptual – it is a set of daily practices as well as a framework to understand the paradoxical nature of the 5 dimensions of our lives. It is available on Lulu.

The third is another book by Mary Manning – a recipe book entitled, Mary’s Menu. Mary created the flower drawing and John designed the cover. The book includes 75 simple recipes from breakfast to dessert, using basic pantry ingredients. It is also available on Lulu.

The fourth is a travel guide on sport fishing in Kenya. It was originally prepared as a chapter entitled, Fishing Safaris in Fielding’s African Safaris, written by Jane and Leah Taylor and published in 1987 by William Morrow and Company. It is published with their permission. Much of the information is dated and no longer valid, but the landscape, flora and fauna of Kenya’s fishing venues remain much the same and the fishing techniques presented here are certainly worth a try. This is also available on Lulu.
